Transportation
- By train: To Newton abbot in south Devon. The journey is less than three hours from London Paddington (great western railway) and four hours from London Waterloo (south west trains). Trains to Newton Abbot are on the exeter to Paddington, Plymouth and Penzance lines.
- By car:If coming from north (e.g. London, Bristol), stay on m5 until it ends and becomes the a38 continue on a38 until drumbridges junction and turn left onto a382 to Newton Abbot follow a382 to Newton Abbot (for 3 miles) at roundabout take 2nd exit, signposted a383 Ashburton at the next roundabout take 2nd exit, signposted a383 Ashburton after just over 1 mile turn left onto Orchard Grove, leading to Chercombe bridge road (opposite mile end garage & hand car wash) turn immediately left onto Chercombe bridge road, follow road for 1.5 miles past the sign for east Ogwell at the next cross roads, turn right continue down here for 0.5 miles, through the hamlet of west Ogwell Gaia house is on your right, up a sweeping drive and next to the church.
- If coming from south (e.g. plymouth): from a38 take a383 to Newton Abbot. After just under 4 miles turn right on to orchard grove leading to chercombe bridge road (opposite mile end garage & hand car wash). take 1st left to stay on chercombe bridge road. Follow the road for 1.5 miles past the sign for east Ogwell, turn right at the signpost. Continue down here for 0.5 miles and through the hamlet of west Ogwell. Gaia house is on the right, up a sweeping drive and next to the church.
- By flight:The nearest airport to Gaia house is Exeter, with flights to various UK and European destinations. Bus services run from the airport into Exeter, from where you can get the train to Newton abbot.
- Bristol airport- a bit further away - has a wider range of flight destinations, and from there you can take the bus or coach into Bristol, to get the train to Newton Abbot
Curriculum
Individual retreats vary, but an average day starts at 6.30am and finishes at 9.30pm. Most of this time is spent in meditation practice, either sitting in the spacious hall or walking in the peaceful grounds. Apart from personal and group meetings with teachers, retreats at gaia house are held in complete silence. As part of this shared experience, each person is asked to contribute one hour of work per day, to help the coordinators and keep the house running smoothly.
